You’ve created your MailerLite account. You’ve probably even planned the newsletter, free guide, or email sequence you want to send…
But now you’re staring at your website wondering:
“How do I actually connect the two?”
Good news: integrating MailerLite with your website is much simpler than it sounds. You don’t need to be a developer, learn complicated code, or spend your entire afternoon clicking mysterious buttons.
In most cases, you can have a working signup form on your website in around five minutes, which means your email marketing setup can start doing its job much faster.
And if you’d rather not touch the tech at all? That’s exactly what our Email Marketing and Website support at IT Moon is here for!
Let’s make some MailerLite magic…
What you’ll need before you start
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- An active MailerLite account
- Access to your website or website builder
- A subscriber group in MailerLite
- A clear reason for people to sign up
- Around five minutes of uninterrupted time
That last one can be tricky when you’re running a business, we know!
Your signup form might offer:
- A free checklist
- A downloadable guide
- A weekly newsletter
- A webinar or workshop
- Early access to a course
- A discount or special offer
The form itself is only one part of your email marketing setup. The real magic happens when the form sends people to the right group and triggers the right follow-up emails.
Step 1: Create your MailerLite signup form
Log in to MailerLite and go to Forms.
Choose Embedded forms, then click Create form.
Give your form a name that makes sense internally, such as:
- Website newsletter form
- Homepage free guide
- Coaching enquiry lead magnet
- Course waitlist
Your subscribers won’t see this name, so choose something that will help you recognise it later.
Next, select the Embedded form option and click Save and continue.
MailerLite will then ask you to choose which subscriber group new signups should join. This is an important step, so don’t skip it.
For example, you might create groups called:
- Newsletter subscribers
- Free guide downloads
- Course waitlist
- Coaching leads
Keeping your subscribers organised from the beginning makes future campaigns and automations much easier. No magical detective work required later!
You can follow MailerLite’s official guide to creating an embedded form if you want to see each screen in detail.
Step 2: Keep your form simple
Once you’re inside the form editor, you can customise the heading, description, fields and button.
Our advice? Ask for the minimum information you need.
For most lead magnets and newsletters, an email address and first name are enough.
Every extra field creates another little bit of friction. And when someone is browsing your website on their phone, even one unnecessary question can make them think, “I’ll do this later.”
And we all know what “later” usually means…
Try a form like:
Get the free launch checklist
Enter your name and email below and we’ll send the checklist straight to your inbox.
[Send me the checklist]
You can change:
- The heading
- The supporting text
- The fields
- The button wording
- The colours
- The layout
- The success message
MailerLite offers default, horizontal and card-style embedded forms, so you can choose a layout that fits your website.
Make sure your form looks like it belongs on your site. Match your colours, use a clear button and keep the message focused on the benefit.
Don’t write “Submit” if you can write something more useful, such as:
- Send me the guide
- Get instant access
- Join the community
- Save my place
- Show me the checklist

Step 3: Add the form to your website
When your form is ready, click Next.
This is the step where your email marketing setup starts connecting properly to your website.
MailerLite will give you the code needed to install it on your website. You’ll usually see two JavaScript snippets:
- A universal tracking snippet
- The individual code for your specific form
The universal tracking snippet goes just before the closing </head> tag in your website’s HTML.
The individual form code goes inside the page body, wherever you want the form to appear.
Once both parts are in the right place, your email marketing setup can collect new subscribers automatically instead of leaving you to do things manually.
That could be:
- Your homepage
- A dedicated landing page
- A blog post
- Your website footer
- A sidebar
- A sales page
- A thank-you page
MailerLite explains the full process in its guide on how to add a form to your website.
Now, we know what you’re thinking…
“I don’t even know where the head tag is!”
That’s completely fine. Many website builders have a section called:
- Custom code
- Website settings
- Header and footer code
- Code injection
- HTML block
- Tracking code
If you’re using WordPress, MailerLite also provides an official WordPress integration, which can make adding forms easier.
And if your website is built with Wix, MailerLite has a dedicated guide for integrating MailerLite with Wix.
Still feeling a bit unsure? This is where a little tech support for entrepreneurs can save you a lot of time. You don’t need to become an expert in website code just to grow your email list.
Step 4: Add a form to your landing page
If you’re creating a dedicated lead magnet, we recommend using a focused landing page rather than sending people to a busy homepage.
A landing page has one job: encourage someone to take one action.
That might be downloading your free resource, joining your waitlist or booking a call.
A simple landing page structure could be:
- A clear headline
- A short explanation of the benefit
- A visual of the free resource
- A few useful bullet points
- Your MailerLite signup form
- A reassuring privacy statement
For example:
Get your first course launch organised
Download the free checklist that helps you plan your content, emails and launch tasks without the last-minute panic.
- Know what to prepare first
- Avoid common launch gaps
- Create a simple timeline
- Feel more in control
Then place your form directly underneath.

If you’re building a landing page inside MailerLite, you can add a signup form block through the page editor. If you’re using your own website, you can paste the form code into the page or use a suitable form block.

Step 5: Test everything before you publish
This step is quick, but it’s the one people often forget.
Open your website in a private or incognito browser window and test the form yourself.
Check that:
- The form appears correctly
- It works on desktop
- It works on mobile
- The button can be clicked
- The confirmation message appears
- The subscriber reaches the correct MailerLite group
- The welcome or delivery email arrives
- The free resource link works
- The page looks good after submission
Use a real email address you can access straight away.
If you’ve enabled double opt-in, check that the confirmation email arrives too. Your subscriber may need to confirm their address before they’re added as an active contact.
Also check that your email sender details and domain settings are configured properly. A beautiful form is no use if the follow-up email disappears into spam.
What if you want to use a pop-up?
MailerLite also supports pop-up forms and promotional pop-ups.
These can be useful when you want to show an offer after someone has spent time on your website or when they’re about to leave.
But please don’t make your pop-up appear immediately, cover the entire screen and offer absolutely no way to close it. That’s not lead generation magic. That’s digital hide-and-seek!
Use pop-ups thoughtfully:
- Offer something genuinely useful
- Give visitors time to read the page
- Make the close button easy to find
- Avoid showing the same pop-up repeatedly
- Make sure it works properly on mobile
You can find the latest installation instructions in MailerLite’s forms help centre.
Common MailerLite integration problems
If your form isn’t working, don’t panic. Most issues are simple to fix.
The form doesn’t appear
Check that the code was pasted into the correct page and that the page has been published. If you used a custom HTML block, make sure the block is visible on the live page.
The form appears strangely
Your website’s styling may be overriding the MailerLite form design. Try adjusting the form width, background and spacing, or use the HTML version for more control.
Signups aren’t going into the right group
Return to the form settings in MailerLite and check the selected subscriber group. This is usually the culprit.
The confirmation email doesn’t arrive
Check your spam folder, sender settings and automation triggers. Also test with another email address if possible. It also helps to understand DKIM, SPF and DMARC so your email marketing setup has the best chance of landing properly.
The form works on desktop but not mobile
Preview your website on a real phone, not just the desktop preview. Look for buttons that are too small, text that wraps awkwardly or fields that run off the screen.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to connect MailerLite to my website?
In many cases, you can connect a basic MailerLite signup form in around five minutes. A fuller email marketing setup with landing pages, automations and testing will usually take longer.
Do I need coding skills?
Not always. Many website builders let you paste the MailerLite embedded form code into settings or blocks without needing proper developer skills.
Where does the MailerLite tracking snippet go?
The universal tracking snippet normally goes just before the closing </head> tag in your website HTML. The individual form code goes in the page body where you want the signup form to appear.
Why aren't my signups landing in the right group?
This usually happens because the wrong subscriber group was selected in the MailerLite form settings. Double-check the form settings first before changing anything else in your email marketing setup.
Does MailerLite work with WordPress and Wix?
Yes, MailerLite works with both WordPress and Wix. MailerLite also provides dedicated help guides and integration options for each platform.
You can do this… or we can do it for you
So, there you have it: the basic MailerLite integration process.
Create your form. Choose your subscriber group. Add the code. Test it.
That’s the five-minute version.
But your overall email marketing setup may include much more:
- A lead magnet
- A landing page
- A thank-you page
- A welcome sequence
- An automated delivery email
- Subscriber segmentation
- Domain authentication
- Tracking and reporting
- Ongoing campaigns
That’s where it can start to feel less like a quick task and more like a full-time job.
